A new U.S. visa program backed by President Donald Trump is expected to launch in the coming days. Known as the “Gold Card” visa, the program is expected to offer a pathway to permanent residency, and possibly even U.S. citizenship, for foreign investors willing to invest at least $5 million into the U.S. economy.
President Trump first introduced the idea earlier this year, promoting it as a way to boost the American economy, attract global wealth, and reduce federal debt.
At an event in Washington, D.C., in May, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that the official application website, TrumpCard.gov, will be live “in about a week.” Although full program details haven’t been released yet, prospective applicants will soon have the opportunity to begin registering online.
The Gold Card is being designed as an alternative to the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, which was created in 1990 to stimulate the U.S. economy through job creation and capital investment by foreign investors. Under EB-5, foreign investors can obtain a green card by investing $1.05 million in a U.S. business (or $800,000 in targeted high-unemployment or rural areas) and creating at least 10 jobs.
The proposed Gold Card visa significantly raises the investment threshold to $5 million. In return, it may offer:
- A direct path to a green card
- A route to U.S. citizenship
- Potential tax breaks for foreign income
It’s important to note that creating a new visa program requires approval from Congress, and no new legislation has been passed yet. Our office is closely monitoring these developments and will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
